Helen Smith

Helen is a physical theatre performer, teacher and director whose main influences have been Japanese-influenced art forms, including Butoh and Suzuki actor training. Helen was first introduced to the world of Physical Theatre, through the Brisbane-based company, Zen Zen Zo with whom she trained, and performed nationally and internationally from 1993 to 2010.  

Helen pursued her Butoh passion for eight years, studying under Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno lineages. In 2010 Helen was awarded a Masters in Theatre Research at Monash University. She developed and produced Ten Worlds at Dancehouse, under the Space Between banner and performed in the Space Between’s Creature directed by New.
